About Tanu

Qualifications

Choosing Psychology as my major in college was a decision that came very easily since I was always inclined towards helping others.

My journey in this field was further enriched when I completed my Masters in Clinical Psychology. Over the years, I’ve attended many workshops and training programs to keep abreast and updated with the newest approaches and therapies.

After completing the Primary and Advanced Practicum in Rational Emotive- Cognitive Behavioural therapy with the Albert Ellis Institute (AEI), New York in 2016, I got certified as an Associate Fellow in 2018. And now, I am a certified REBT Supervisor with them.

Experience and Approach

When deciding on a therapist, it is especially important to feel a connection with the one you choose. My approach is caring, warm, and collaborative.

I work with families, couples, children, adolescents and adults who are anxious or depressed about relationships, family or work settings, or major life transitions. Sometimes, changes in sleep and appetite or a feeling that ‘something is not right’ is reason enough for people to take an appointment with me. I create a safe and supportive environment in which you can talk about your situation without fear. Together, we work to help you cope with the struggles that interfere with your goals, relationships, and overall sense of well-being.

In addition to my private practice at Doctor Centre in Kemps Corner, I have had the fulfilling experience of being a counsellor at a reputed South Mumbai school for many years where I looked into the emotional, social and academic development of children from ages 3 to 16.

Information about my practice:

When I take you on as a client, I commit to working sincerely and wholeheartedly to help you achieve your goals. Sometimes, after a session, you may feel emotionally spent or exhausted. This is to be expected and is part of the process.

The duration of each  session is 45 minutes. I urge you to set up the time and date for your sessions well in advance with my assistant Sonali Kale (+918291677131). I encourage you to value my time and your commitment to therapy.

I’m happy to start a session on the phone if you’re running late but it won’t be possible for me to make up for any delay at your end. I will however make up if the delay is at my end. There will be a full fee charge for missed sessions unless you cancel 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment.

Depending on certain circumstances, sessions might be held online. Situations such as the pandemic, or if I am traveling, may warrant online sessions. This ensures continuity and prevents a loss of connection between two sessions with my client.

Oftentimes, psychometric testing is needed in addition to talk therapy. A psychometric test is conducted in order to assess and evaluate your skills, knowledge, abilities, personality traits, attitudes etc. It is a very helpful tool in confirming a diagnosis and also formulating a treatment plan. These will be chargeable.

Other Areas of Focus:

If you are facing problems with these aspects of your life, we can work on them in the therapy sessions.

A little bit about me on the personal front:

Happily married with two wonderful girls, my family holds prime importance in my life and I strive to strike a balance between work and home.

Being the ‘cautious’ type, I love being challenged by my husband to try new adventures on our travels.
Mindfulness is a practice that has helped me immensely in my progress professionally and personally. I enjoy listening to music and get to hear the ‘trendy’ stuff from my girls. I love singing as well, it’s literally therapy for my soul.

Curling up with a book at the end of the day is the best way for me to relax.
