Individual Therapy

What is Individual Therapy:

Individual therapy is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.

Individuals are encouraged and taught how to:

  • Explore their feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours
  • Work through challenging or influential memories
  • Identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change

A client and therapist may work together for as few as five or six sessions or for several years, depending on the client’s unique needs and therapy goals.

Is therapy for you:

While everyone can benefit from therapy it might be a more pressing requirement for some.

If you’re experiencing any of the following, it might be a good idea to consider therapy:

  • Intense and overwhelming thoughts and feelings
  • Repetitive and disturbing thoughts due to a trauma experienced
  • Unexplained and recurrent headaches, stomach-aches or a rundown immune system
  • The urge to use substances to cope
  • Difficulty concentrating or being productive at work
  • Lack of interest or enjoyment in activities previously enjoyed
  • Difficulty in connecting with people or enjoying relationships
  • Friends and family are concerned about your well-being

If one or more of these concerns applies to you, you might consider signing up for therapy.

During a therapy session:

In a therapy session, the client’s thoughts and feelings are carefully analysed. The aim is to help the individual process their experiences and develop coping skills needed to manage difficult emotions, relationships and life circumstances.

Therapy helps people identify ways in which they undermine themselves in relationships and their professional lives.

Through the healing process, an individual can build their self-confidence, develop loving and satisfying connections with others, and experience greater contentment and success in life.

Through therapy an individual can:

  • Develop better problem-solving skills
  • Deal with and heal pains from the past
  • Learn to cope with symptoms and deal with everyday stressors
  • Learn to change or modify negative behaviour or thought patterns
  • Spot thinking patterns that affect mood
  • Learn relationship skills to strengthen relationships
  • Set goals and learn how to achieve them
  • Strengthen self-confidence
